Lens Materials

LENS MATERIALS

  • RESIN
These lenses are commonly called “plastic” lenses and are the most cost effective lens option.  We recommend a scratch coating to insure adequate durability.
  • POLYCARBONATE LENSES
Polycarbonate lenses have emerged as a frequent go to lens for many opticals.  While it is among the most impact resistant lenses made, it suffers from unusually large amounts of distortion making it less desirable as a lens choice.
  • TRIVEX
This lens material offers the impact resistance of polycarbonate without as much distortion.  When thinner, durable lenses are a must this is a good choice.
  • HIGH INDEX LENSES
In the last few years, newer lens materials have been developed that bend light more aggressively.  These lenses require less curvature to get the same amount of focusing. The benefit with these lenses is that they can be dramatically thinner than conventional lenses of the same power.  These are definitely the lens of choice for higher prescriptions.
